Hello,
I've been through all of the threads in this base and most (at least I think it's most) of the archived threads as well. What I have failed to find so far is a list of log distributors by geographic location.
The source that I primarily use has no URL, no e-mail, and you would think that the telephone in their office is a new addition. In short, I believe that log mills are a bit technologically challenged.
I also believe that this is a part of the reason why plain ol' debarked logs are so outrageously expensive when you attempt to buy them through a log home distributor. 1,200 sf is possible for under $10,000. I know this because I've done it! I could not have done it using log home distribution links.
I would really like to see some sort of a list of timber mills by geographic location. It would be especially helpful if the list included a small table of pricing by diameter, length broken down every 5 feet, and wood species available.
As I indirectly mentioned earlier, I doubt that the majority of these mills would be willing to pay dime-one for advertising space on LHOTI. This would only be a tool useful to LHOTI subscribers, but what a useful link it would be! (IMHO)
Do others feel that this would be useful as well, or do the majority of the users of this base want to either purchase a prepackaged home, or allow their contractor/builder to make the purchasing decisions?
Regards
