Economy & Jim Barna Log Homes

"A downturn in the national housing market may have cost some East Tennesseans their job.

Approximately 25 workers at the main Barna Log Homes plant in Oneida were laid-off last Friday, according to Scott County Mayor Rick Keeton.

The mayor said that only administrative staff remain at the site.

Keeton also said that Barna Log Homes laid-off around 25 workers in October as well.

He blamed gas prices, a suffering credit market and a downturn in the national housing market.

Mayor Keeton believes management is looking for potential investors so they can regain footing.

"Orders for next summer usually take place in three or four months beginning in November and December and running into the manufacturing period for next summer," Keeton added. "So it's a very important time. We hope they can work out the necessary financial arrangements."

Numerous attempts to reach management at Barna Log Homes were unsuccessful."

There was quite a bit about this on www.loghomereports.com there is a reply from Barna Loghomes, and that thread has been locked by the administrator. It looks to be a rumor.
