One Day Seminar Syllabus and Schedule

This Seminar will be a great look in on what handcrafted log home building is all about - for the would be owner builders, it may be a good eye opener to see what is needed and what is involved in building their own and how to begin making plans to build. For those with "general" interest, you are forewarned, once you see a handcrafted full-scribe-to-fit log home and see it done and can pick a skilled master log builders mind - you may not look at anything else the same way again! This is a must see one-day seminar!!

7:30 AM Introduction to a 1500 Year Old Traditional Craft of Building With Logs

8:00 A.M. Chainsaw Purchase Tips & Maintenance Needs for Building With Logs

8:45 AM Tour of Log Building Pre-assembly Yard with Q&A Throughout Tour

9:45 AM 15 Minute Coffee Break

10:00 AM Hand Tools Display and Demonstration Beginning with Peeling Logs, Including:
Use of Cant Hooks, Peavies, Log Cleets, Ropes, Scribing and more.

12:00 PM Lunch Break - Lunch provided by School of Log Building -
J.R. Beans BBQ *Wood Smoked-Low & Slow* of Bedford, Indiana.

12:45 PM Power Tools Used in Log Building Demonstrated, including;
Use of Chainsaws, Grinders, Purpose and Use of Safety Gear, Cutting of a
Scribed-Log and Fitting of This Log Onto Log Wall.

2:45 15 Minute Break for Water & Refreshments.

3:00 PM Discussion on Trade/Craft, Design and Tour of a Handcrafted Log Home Shell
Near Completion At School Building Yard. Cameras are welcome!

3:45 PM Discussion on What is Meant by "Debt-free Building - How & Why"?
With Q&A Immediately Following.

4:30 PM Discussion on Log Home Design, Maintenance and Restoration With Q&A
Immediately Following.

5:30 PM Seminar Concludes.

Seminar Speaker and School Instructor Will Remain to Answer Any Further Questions.

All participants receive a copy of the Log Building Standards and other materials as issued to Workshop students, Refreshments and Lunch by J.R. Beans BBQ *Wood Smoked-Low & Slow* of Bedford, Indiana, and a Certificate of Participation. The cost of the Seminar Fee may be deducted from tuition from any future Log Building Workshop scheduled for the remainder of 2004 or in 2005.
