Someone's gotta do it!!!!!!!! Despite my busy work schedule, I "have" to go to England and "study" the architecture.........pub interiors have always fascinated me.............If anyone has a "must see" in London, I would appreciate knowing about it.........Globe Theatre/Westminster Hall/Windsor Castle are already on the list.........Leaving Monday............

Tim,
St. Pauls cathedral is an architectural masterpiece. Go before 4 pm on a weekday and stay for the evensong service.
You can even sit up with the choir. I promise you, you will be transported.
If you have a chance to get out of the city go to Stratford on Avon
(ol willy's home). Lots of old pubs there.
Let there always be an england.

Hi Tim,
There are so many great sites there. St. Paul's is a great one. Madame Tussaud's isn't an architectural site but a great place to see. Tower Bridge is very interesting. How about the crown jewels-you're in the vault there? Maybe someday you'll have to build a security vault doubling as a bomb shelter under a log home for someone!
If you get out of London and can get to North Wales the Caernavon Castle is one of the oldest in England still in decent shape, about 1,100 AD. Driving throught the Snowdonia Mountains is wonder to see, and the sheep are everywhere on the roads.
Have a great time!

Tim,
Check out Hampton Court Palace, Kenilworth Castle, and Warwick Castle. These are to old sytle.
For a Arts and Craft sytle check out Kelmscott Manor, Staden, Leighton House, and Warwick Manor. Lots of neat stuff on the drives to them.

I lived in England 12 years and my wife is British - born and raised
there. We lived about 5 miles from Windsor Castle.
I always visited a Pub - The Standard Arms in Beaconsfield - about
7 miles from Windsor - the 3rd oldest standing pub in England.
As I Recall the beam work is all over, and the floors are uneven and like cobblestone. It may be a good place to visit. I will
ask my wife for other places. Mind you when I lived there
I went to Pubs for a real lager/bitter and hardly paid attention
to the beam work.
Thats a tough job you have there - to visit all these pubs but I guess someone has to do it.
Tower Bridge - Chamber of Horrors does have very old beam work.
A lot of the Castles you will find do not offer a lot of beam work
other than straight beams set in mortor/blocks.
Did you ever see the movie, Highlander, a great castle in the
opening scene. I flew to Scotland form Canada just to visit this
castle and it had a lot of wood beams and joinery.

Josh, the castle shown in Highlander is Eilean donan Castle, ancestral home of the Macraes. It lies in Wester Ross near Kyle of Lochalsh. It was a ruin until about a hundred years ago when it was rebuilt by the laird who had a dream about the layout of the Castle. Many years after it was rebuilt, the original plans were found in Edinburgh and the rebuild from the dream was correct in every detail! Spooky!

Stan........You are going to the conference???
Tim
The Royal Standard is very non touristy - just locals having
a good pint or two. I will get the address as the post address
is Beaconsfield (pronounced Beckonsfield) but is in a very
small quaint village just on the outskirts.
If you go to Beaconsfield, visit the model village,
about 3 acres of awesome craftmanship, you can watch
the chippy's (carpenters) make model homes.
I know the Windsor area very well and will come back with
some recommendations, I will email my friends in this area
and see what they have to offer.
Driving is a breeze once your on the road - its when you stop
for gas, store etc... and your immediate urge is to get on the
right side. It comes natural in 5 minutes and must be experienced
as you actually get to drive along polite and professional drivers,
no bloody lane changing all over the place, indicators used
every turn etc...
Alan
I stayed in a B&B right across the bay from the castle - my
room overlooked it - had a wet soggy, foggy night and day
which made the view amazing. Hotel had a pub which I went into
with all elderly scots - when I walked in the room fell silent.
Did not last long as they are very friendly folks.

Hi Tim,
No, I can't get away at that time. I'll be lambing then.
If business keeps picking up I'll have to sell the sheep and then it will be easier to get away. Or else I'll have to pull the rams from the ewes during the week of breeding that would cause the ewes to lamb during conference. But I never think of that 5 months before the conference. It's hard to sell off the sheep that got me started in this business but it may have to come to that.
Thanks for asking.
