Thanks to advice I received here I have redrawn my roof with 6 ft between purlins. Now I need to know if 11.5 ft centers between trusses is acceptable.
Trusses will span 30 ft. One truss will sit on a crosswall ( this truss goes thru my office loft so I may make it a collar tie truss).Because it sits on a wall I know it is not technically a truss. I am using a 9/12 pitch on the roof.
I read somewhere you could space trusses up to 15 ft apart.
1-1/2 rounds to go and I start on the roof. I was planning on using kingpost trusses on both end walls, I really like the look. Most of the reading suggests I just use posts there. I plan on having windows put in the truss in the great room. Is labor the main reason that people go with post for end wall purlin support ?
Thanks again for everyones helpful advice and suggestions! Doing 100% of the works myself and sometimes it seems overwhelming but with the help of this forum I have managed so far!

One solution for your question is to hire an engineer familier with log home construction. Look at the ILBA member list, as there are member engineers available.

Another option is to purchase "Log Span Tables" from the ILBA, where you can use the tables and information to do your own calculations.

Factors dictating truss spacing include live loading (snow), roof pitch, and roof weight. The roof loading, along with the size of the logs you have available for the truss members plus the size of your purlins will dictate spacing.

Make sure you do not notch a truss into a header, like over a window or door.
