My plumber was about to install a settling joint with a rubber hose and hose clamps? I told him that I didn't want
it because no one else does it that way...or a least I've never heard of it. I lost my mfg info about the slip joints on my last computer when I bought this new one.
Thank you for the help
Jim

I used Genova expansion joints, a brand available at most large US hardware chains....had to order them special. I had to use rubber hose clamp fittings to install them in the already installed stack and vent pipes. It's the only way to create enough wiggle room to get them in if the pipes have been already run. Plumbers use them all the time to make pipe transitions. That PVC cement just sets up too fast to try to fit them using it.

Hi
I have to agree with you regarding the slip joints... If you don't
plan ahead or don't have enough play the rubber hose may be the best bet. I kind of felt that they were too stiff though.
I like the fact that the nicer quality slip joints use an rubber
O-ring and they seem to work really slick and slide very easy.
One major drawback... they cost a bundle; about $400 for a 3
bath house. If you only need about 3" of settling then the cost is
only around $200, because you don't need two sets per run.
My plumber didn't have any problem installing them.
I believe he used the Genova brand...I gave him the part number
from Bob's info.
Best of wishes
